Nimrod

This is a gouache painting of a Nimrod aircraft of 42 Squadron RAF when this aircraft flew from RAF St. Mawgan in Cornwall. I once had an amazing nine hour flight in one of these superb aircraft over the North Sea towards Sweden, the exercise was typical of the nature of the Nimrods work of long range maritime search and rescue. Manned by a team of at least nine crew the aircraft was at the peek of its type and would have remained the last word in search and surveillance had it’s updated replacement not been scrapped in 2015.
